Liberal Arts: Communication in the English Language

These courses emphasize the content and form of communication and provide an understanding of the psychological basis and social significance of communication. Students will be able to assess communication as the process of human symbolic interaction. Students will also develop skills in the areas of reading, writing, listening, reasoning, advocacy, organization, and accuracy. Additionally, students will be able to integrate important concepts of critical thinking as related to the development of analysis and critical evaluation. An Associate of Arts degree may be earned by completing a minimum of 60 units of degree credit coursework with a minimum grade point average of 2.0. Major requirements must be completed with a ‘C’ grade or better with students selecting a minimum of 18 units from the following list of Communication in the English Language courses. For breadth, students will complete courses in at least two disciplines from this list. Some courses in this major may also be counted toward completion of general education requirements.
